Officer single-handedly arrests five people following attempted car theft

Five people have been arrested after one of our officers single-handedly detained them all following reports of an attempted theft in Lichfield.

It happened at about 9.45pm on Saturday (14 June). A group of people, described as young lads wearing tracksuits, broke into a car on Lombard Street.

Officers started looking for the group in the area. When five people matching the descriptions were spotted, they all tried to run away, but were not quick enough to outrun one of our local officers.

When one of them was searched, a zombie knife was found.

All five people were questioned in custody and bailed with conditions while our investigation continues.

Inspector Melissa Byrne, from the Lichfield local policing team, said: “We’re determined to take robust action against those responsible for vehicle theft in Lichfield.

“We know this crime can have a profound impact on victims and we’re using all of the tactics available to prevent thefts from happening and to go after those responsible.”
